Who are British Homebuyers
Hertfordshire-based British Homebuyers claim to be able to buy any house, in any condition, in any location.
What services do British Homebuyers provide?
British Homebuyers say they can buy your property for cash in as little as 7 days, but most of their customer reviews appear to refer to online estate agency services, so it’s unclear how many properties they purchase themselves.
What is the buying process for British Homebuyers?
According to their website, the buying process with British Homebuyers is similar to other property-buying companies.
Step 1: Speak to their team and provide some basic information about your property. It says they will provide transparent and honest advice, and help guide you to the solution that works best for you.
Step 2: Their website says “once the valuations are in” you will be made a formal cash offer, though it’s unsure whether the valuations are carried out by the company, estate agents or RICS surveyors. They claim their formal cash offer is never reduced.
Step 3: Upon completion of the sale, the proceeds will be paid directly into your bank account.
How much below market value do British Homebuyers offer?
We couldn’t find any information on British Homebuyers’ website stating how much below market value their offer will be.
Pros & Cons of British Homebuyers
British Homebuyers - Positives
- UK-based company with positive customer reviews
- Members of The Property Ombudsman (TPO)
- British Homebuyers claim their formal offers will never be reduced and they don’t tie you in with a contract.
British Homebuyers - Negatives
- We couldn’t find any customer reviews that refer to British Homebuyers buying their property directly. Most of their reviews explicitly mention online estate agency services, so it’s unclear how many properties British Homebuyers buy directly.
- British Homebuyers’ company accounts suggest they have less than £50,000 ‘cash at bank and in hand’. This suggests they may not have the finances available to be able to buy properties directly without relying on mortgages or investors.
- If British Homebuyers are directing people to their online estate agency service rather than buying properties directly with their own cash funds, they will be unable to offer any certainty around price or timescale. One customer review says they waited more than 6 months from accepting an offer to the sale completion.
Is British Homebuyers legit? - Our verdict
British Homebuyers have lots of positive customer reviews suggesting they offer a high level of customer care. The big question for us is what service they are providing. We struggled to find any customer reviews that mentioned direct property buying or cash home buying services. Instead, most reviews refer to online estate agency services. Their company accounts state their principal activity as ‘estate agency’ and suggest they may not have the funds available to be able to purchase properties directly without use of investors or mortgages.
Online estate agencies provide a very different service to cash home buying companies. An online estate agency can connect you with buyers (investors or buyers wanting to live in the property), but will have no control over how quickly the sale will complete once an offer has been accepted. One review, which was very complimentary about the service they’d received from British Homebuyers in finding a buyer, said it had taken more than 6 months from offer acceptance to sale completion.
Genuine cash home buyers offer speed and certainty that cannot be matched by any other method of property sale. If you want a guaranteed sale or need your sale to complete on a certain date, an online estate agency won’t be able to deliver that service.
Are British Homebuyers any good?
British Homebuyers appear to have lots of happy customers, which suggests they are providing a valuable service for homeowners who are struggling to sell. It is important to keep in mind, however, that online estate agency and cash home buying services are very different and will be appropriate in different circumstances. A genuine cash home buyer will be able to purchase your property in as little as 7 days. A sale with an online estate agency will take several months.
If you need any level of certainty around timescales or need to know your property sale is guaranteed, the only appropriate route will be a genuine cash home buyer who will purchase your property directly with their own cash funds.
For 4 months this company hounded me with letters offering to sell my property higher than what it was on the market for. Once I agreed, they talked me down to a lower price. I had no viewings for months. I then wrote a review of the horrible experience I had and was contacted
with a long apology and a £100 Amazon voucher. What followed was even more vile. All I got was weekly phone calls telling me how many people have viewed my property online. In the end, I asked for them to take off my property from their markets. If you like a company to. waste 8 months of your time, choose
them. ABSOLUTE SCAM. In their response, they couldn’t even get my name right. What a joke. Customer satisfaction indeed.
They sent a letter saying they would like to buying our house for 97% of the asking price. Thought is acceptable. Gave them a call and got gaslighted straight then offer ended up 80% of the asking price.Been told something about 4weeks period what should been mentioned in the letter…letter havent got anything like that. Turned out to be an estate agent. Just leaving this here for anyone who gets letter similar to see what you can expect.
Our house didn’t sell in the time frame as advertised due to the current market. Throughout the process I came across a few of the guys at BHS but Alex was very supportive & always kept me in the loop.
Right at the end of the sale I asked to be in contact with the buyer direct and the only reason I give 4 star is that no one actually contacted me to tell me when completion was done!! It was the buyer who kept me in loop.

British Homebuyers Reviews Trustpilot
Trustpilot Score: 4.7 / 5
Their reviews are very positive and suggest British Homebuyers offer high levels of customer service and communication. We did struggle to find any reviews that mention direct or cash home buying services though. Any review that offered any specifics regarding the service they used referred to online estate agency services. It appears that British Homebuyers offer a high level of service in this area, but an online estate agency offers a very different service to a cash home buying company and is unable to offer the level of speed and certainty provided by a genuine cash home buyer.
British Homebuyers have responded to every negative review left in the last 12 months, typically replying in 24 hours or less. They have also requested the removal of 4 reviews in that time period. 2 of the requests were rejected by Trustpilot, the other 2 were removed because Trustpilot couldn’t get a response from the reviewer.

Again, we struggled to find any mention of British Homebuyers buying properties directly, but did find lots of complimentary feedback about their online estate agency service.
