As we can see from the data, the property market varies hugely throughout England and Wales; from an average time on market of 70 days in Dagenham, right up to an average of 298 days – nearly ten months – in Peterlee.

There is a clear north-south divide between the best and worst places to sell a house, with the South East and East of England performing particularly well, and the North East and North West making up eight of the top ten worst places to sell a house.

Doug Shephard, director at Home.co.uk, added:

These average marketing times correlate well with demand from buyers, driven by the local economic conditions. Moreover, all the ten best locations are where our data shows that prices are still rising relatively quickly. Conversely, long selling times equate to stagnant local markets where oversupply leads to sliding prices.
