Easy improvements to sell your house quickly this Spring

Spring traditionally means a bonanza for the housing market!

So if you’ve been thinking of selling your home, now is the time to seriously consider shifting it. Spring brings dreams of a new start, buyers are keener to view in warmer weather, plus confidence in the UK property market is returning with force.

In fact, take the right steps and there’s a good chance you could sell your house quickly this Spring. So what are the best ways to maximise your chances?

1.Make a sale before they even step inside
Many buyers are just as interested in the outside of a property as the inside. So if you have a garden, make it the perfect advert for your home. Sling up some vibrantly coloured hanging baskets, trim back the hedge and hose away all the muck between the paving stones.

2.Improve your door policy
Winter won’t have been kind to your front door. If it’s looking sad and weathered, that’s precisely the first impression that viewers will get of your home. So polish the brasswork, give the woodwork a fresh coat of varnish, and treat your visitors to a new welcome mat.

3.Make time to clean up
A good spring-clean will not only freshen up the interior and make it more appealing, it will help you de-clutter and make your property look bigger. For instance, those bulky winter coats that take up so much room on the pegs can be packed away for another year.

4.Let the light in
With all those grey winter days, there hasn’t been much incentive to look out of the window in recent months  so you may not have noticed that your windows are dirty or smudged. A thorough, sparkling clean will let the Spring light in, and show off your home to its best.

5.Have a lightbulb moment
Even though the weather is brighter now, give Mother Nature a helping hand by making sure all of those spent lightbulbs are replaced, especially in areas with lots of spotlights, like a kitchen or hallway. There’s nothing like a dull, dead area to give a bad impression of a room.

6.Introduce the sweet smell of success
The trick of having coffee percolating or bread baking when viewers arrive is a bit hackneyed now, but placing bunches of Spring flowers around your home is always a fresh idea. They bring colour, fragrance and make people think of new beginnings – hopefully in your house.

All these changes can be made easily but will add up to make a big difference to the appeal of your home to potential buyers. If anyone has any other tips to add, we’d love to hear them…
