10 Removal Packing Tips
With the growth of Quick Move Now, more and more people are choosing a quick house sale with us over the traditional method of moving house. One thing to consider when preparing to move house is the removal itself.Packing boxes may seem like a simple task when moving house but there are a few tips and tricks to know that may be useful to you.
Tip no.1: Don’t overpack boxes. You don’t want your removals company employees damaging their backs by lifting large boxes that have been filled to the brim with heavy goods.
Tip no.2: When taping up a box, use at least two strips of gaffer/packing tape. The last noise you want to hear when carrying a box to the van is the crash of china on concrete.
Tip no.3: Line the bottom of the box with scrunched up newspaper or towels and linen, this will act as a shock absorber and prevent damage to your goods.
Tip no.4: Wrap all china and glassware pieces separately, using tissue paper as the first layer, then newspaper. This is because newspaper can leave smudges and marks.
Tip no.5: Source and obtain strong 'double walled' containers/boxes and always use tape to fasten the bottom and top of your boxes. Never use damaged, worn, or thin cardboard boxes.
Tip no.6: Pack all boxes to their tops and fill spaces with void filling material such as shredded/crumpled paper. Larger spaces could be filled with pillows or cushions. This will prevent movement of contents and give the packing box rigidity when stacked. Unfilled boxes can be crushed and overfilled bulging boxes can tear and fall apart or be dropped! Rattling boxes mean insufficient space filling.
Tip no.7: Unless your movers have competed in the Worlds Strongest Man competition, remember that the weight of the box should not exceed the average adult strength (around 23kg.).
Tip: no.8: To make sure the movers know where to put the boxes, mark them clearly with what room they have come from, what's inside and a brief description.
Tip no.9: Lastly, stack the boxes as close to the front door as possible without blocking access, this will allow them to be removed quickly with the least amount of fuss.
Tip no.10: Once all the packing and moving has been completed, make sure you take time to relax and have a cup of tea, either in your old or new home.
